Factor10 Martial Arts

Here's some general information about grading at Factor10 Martial Arts:

1. Make sure you have all 5 Pre Grade stripes on your belt - blue (Poomsae and Step Exercise), black (Basic Movement, Stances and Flexibility), Red (Sparring), Green (Self Defence) and Yellow (Kicking and Demo Kicking)

2. Once you have all 5 stripes, your instructor will check to confirm you are ready for grading and issue your grading slip.  This is a piece of paper that is signed and dated on the top right hand corner by your instructor confirming that you are ready to grade.

3. It may be that one or more things you pre graded successfully some time back need some revision and so your instructor will tell you if this is the case.  They will issue a homework sheet that has the things you need to work on.

At any time you may talk to the instructor and tell them what you are working on and ask them if they can check to see if the techniques meet the standard for grading.

You are welcome to ask the instructor what you need to work on to be ready for pre grading for a particular pre grade stripe, or to ask the instructor what you need to work on to be ready to be issued your grading slip, if you have all 5 pre grade stripes.

4. Make sure you have purchased and have in your training bag your arm guards, shin guards and mouth guard as these are required when sparring at grading.  For safety, students need to wear these items when grading.  Sparring is part of every grading and cannot be done without the safety equipment.

5. Make sure to have your traditional uniform for grading as this is the only attire permitted for grading.  The martial arts jacket, pants and belt are required.  Grading is performed in bare feet.  The uniform needs to be clean, well presented and taken up to the correct length.  Uniforms are not to be rolled up to make them the correct length.  Belts are to be tired correctly.

6. Book and pay OnLine, at least 48 hours (2 days) before the grading so that the necessary grading reports and scheduling may be finalised:

7. Email a photo / scan copy of your grading clip to enquiries@factorten.com.au.  The grading slip needs to be received before the grading - at least 48 hours (2 days) before the grading

8. arrive to grade a minimum of 10 minutes before.  It is preferable to arrive 20 minutes before in order to prepare mentally, be relaxed, and to begin a short warmup in preparation for grading.  Our experience is that people who do not arrive early enough don't perform well.

9. Bring a drink bottle ready for use.

10. Feel free to take photos or video from the side.  As with all activities on the mats, only those performing are permitted to be on the mats.

11. Feel free to request a photo with Master O or an instructor after the grading.

12.  Make sure to be concerned only with your own grading results.  Comparing your results with those of friends and other family members is not recommended.  Your progress and development is what is most important.

I hope this page on how to book in for a grading has been helpful.
